Synology Series – SO…. I got a DS1621+ NAS

First thing you feel when getting a new Synology is an incredible amount of excitement. This device is BOSS.

The DS1621+ is the perfect file storage solution for businesses and homes thanks to its support for up to six 3.5-inch HDDs and two M.2 NVMe SSDs, as well as two DX516 expansion units – resulting in a total of 16 drive bays.

2 x Gigabit Ethernet and 1 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections then gives you fast and reliable connectivity, and works with Synology’s impressive software solutions to give you the perfect NAS set-up.

DSM 7.0 is amazing, super easy to use and quick.

I ripped open the box, installed the NVMe, and extra RAM, and then thought to myself, damn….. How do I transfer my data volumes from my existing DS920+, I don’t have any spare drives….. Can I just simply move the drives over from one model to another, surely its not that easy!

I was wrong….

You simply plug the drives into the new device. It boots, it reinstalls the operating system, and bam, everything is back to the way it was.

Once I had configured the IP addresses, everything was working great on my network.

I have written a couple of new posts about my experience with the new NAS and 3-2-1 Backup for Office 365
